We already discovered that the bass was too loud but we didn't know why.

Bit of a weird one actually! Lowered the input level of my amp so there's a lot less gain and more of a cleaner setting, then attacked the strings extremely hard to make it sound muuuch tighter! Also turned up the tone knob on my Tube Screamer to give it more twang, definitely done wonders! :P
